A woman, who worked as a workshop assistant with the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus depot in Pimpri, was killed Tuesday after she was crushed between two buses.
The police have identified the deceased as Shilpa Gedam, 33, a resident of the State Transport Colony in Dapodi. The incident took place around 8.30 am at the MSRTC Bus Depot in Vallabhnagar, which is the bus terminus in Pimpri for state-operated buses coming from across Maharashtra and outside.
They have booked Prashant Wadkar, 33, the driver of one of the buses, on the charges of rash driving, causing death due to negligence, and also under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by Depot Traffic Inspector Vasant Yamaji Ravate, Wadkar wanted to move his bus out of the depot, but another vehicle was parked in the way. Wadkar, without seeking due permission from the depot manager and also without informing the driver of the other bus, moved it using his own key. When he was moving the bus, he hit the Shivshahi luxury bus which Gedam was checking for fuel levels.
Ravate said in the FIR that Gedam sustained multiple serious injuries on her head, back, abdomen, and legs. She was rushed to a nearby private hospital and later to PCMC-run Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival by doctors.
