Mumbai Indians' Suryakumar Yadav stole the show in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 9. The 32-year-old right-handed batter smashed 83 off 35 balls to help MI chase down a target of 200 runs against RCB in just 16.3 overs with four wickets to spare.
Suryakumar Yadav played with finesse and dominated the RCB bowling attack, hammering them all around the park to secure a vital win for Mumbai Indians. During his explosive innings, he hit seven fours and six sixes and shared a 140-run partnership with Nehal Wadhera for the third wicket in just 70 balls.
His fifty was his fourth in the last seven matches of the IPL 2023, and he now holds the record for the most runs scored by a Mumbai Indians player in the current edition of the tournament.
For his exceptional performance, Suryakumar Yadav was awarded the Player of the Match accolade. Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian captain and current BCCI President, was impressed by SKY’s sublime form with the bat and expressed his admiration for him on Twitter.
Ganguly tweeted that Suryakumar Yadav seemed like he was playing on a computer, and his performance was breathtaking. Dada called him the best T20 batsman in the world.
Ganguly is technically correct as well. Suryakumar Yadav is the no. 1 T20 batsman in the world when it comes to ICC rankings. With 906 points, Yadav is way ahead of Mohammad Rizwan (811) and Babar Azam (756). In fact, Surya is the only Indian batsman among the top 10 T20 batsmen in the rankings.

The only other Indian player who features among the top 10 in any category (batsmen, bowlers or all-rounders) is Hardik Pandya. With 250 points, he is at number two among all-rounders with Bangladesh's Sakib al Hasan , with 269 points, claiming the top spot in the category.
Suryakumar Yadav's consistent performances have earned him a place in the hearts of cricket fans worldwide. On social media, users praised his extraordinary skill and finesse, with many hoping to see him perform like this for the Indian cricket team in crucial games.
"To be really very honest I had thought now it's over for him but came back strongly n at right time too, MI needed him direly to perform so he did his 4th fifty in last six outings speaks highly of his skills in this format!! (sic)" one user tweeted.
"Hopefully he plays like that for India too when it comes to crucial games," wrote another user.
