Mangaluru: In a tragic incident reported in Subrahmanya police station limits, two siblings drowned while playing in the Kumaradhara River on Monday.
The deceased are Hamsitha,16, and her younger sister Avanthika,11. The victims’ mother in a complaint told the police, that since Hamsitha insisted that they play in the river, about five persons, including the complainant, her daughters, her elder sister and a cousin, Vidhisha,16, had been to the river, located near their house in Kenya village of Kadaba taluk.
The three children got into the water to play. At 5.30 pm, as the children were playing, Avanthika and Hamsitha slipped and fell into the water and drowned.
Vidhisha, who was with them in the water, started screaming, forcing the complainant and her sister, who were sitting on the bank, to rush and pull Vidhisha out from the water. Later, with the help of the fire and emergency services personnel, the bodies of the victims were recovered. An unnatural death report has been registered.
