LUCKNOW: A 35-year-old police constable was shot dead in Jalaun area in Uttar Pradesh while he was chasing some suspicious people on a bike on Wednesday.
Superintendent of Police, Jalaun, Iraj Raja, said that the victim cop Bhedjeet Singh, who was posted at a highway police outpost, tried to stop two men on a motorbike.
"When the bike riders did not stop, he chased them and during the chase, they opened fire which hit the cop's head making him slump to the ground on the spot," said Raja.
Senior police officials and a forensic team have reached the spot and attempts are on to nab the accused, he said.
Four teams have been formed that are tracing the residences of the accused.
The deceased constable was a resident of Chaurambar village in Mathura.
He was selected in the police department in 2021, and had got the first posting in Jalaun.
The family members have been informed about the incident, said a senior officer.
