After meeting Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday, Nitish Kumar is likely to meet his Jharkhand counterpart Hemant Soren on Wednesday in a bid to unite the opposition against the BJP.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will likely meet his Jharkhand counterpart Hemant Soren today. The meeting between two leaders comes after Nitish Kumar met Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday. The two political stalwarts are likely to address a press conference after their meeting in Ranchi.

News agency PTI quoted sources in Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) as saying that the two leaders will meet at Hemant Soren's residence in Ranchi today at around 4:45 pm. Meanwhile, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha spokesperson Vinod Kumar Pandey has also confirmed that the two leaders are likely to meet on Wednesday and will discuss various issues including political matters.

Nitish Kumar had called on Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's residence in Bhubaneshwar on Tuesday for around an hour-long meeting. However, the two leaders later claimed they had not discussed any political matter but being old friends they talked about matters other than politics.

However, Nitish Kumar's JD(U) claimed in a tweet on Tuesday that the Bihar Chief Minister has become the leader of a united opposition against the BJP. In a tweet in Hindi, JD(U) wrote, “Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has become the leader of opposition unity, went to Odisha and met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik uniting opposition parties without personal ambition,"

The Bihar chief minister has emerged as a prominent face of opposition unity since breaking away from long-time alliance partner the BJP in August last year. In the recent past, Kumar has met various opposition leaders including Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Congress leader Mallikarjuna Kharge as well as Rahul Gandhi.

As per news agency PTI, Nitish Kumar will likely meet Maharashtra leaders Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday. Thackeray's UBT Shivsena, Pawar's NCP and Congress are a part of Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi(MVA) which ran the government in Maharashtra for close to two and a half years.
