Trump liable for sexual abuse, defamation in E. Jean Carroll trial

The verdict is in. A federal jury found Donald Trump liable Tuesday for sexually abusing advice columnist E. Jean Carroll in 1996, awarding her $5 million in a judgment that could haunt the former president as he campaigns to regain the White House. Jurors rejected Carroll’s claim that she was raped but found Trump liable for sexual abuse and for defaming Carroll after she made her allegations public. Trump chose not to attend the civil trial but lashed out on his social media website after the verdict was read, saying in an all-caps post that he still has "no idea" who Carroll is and calling the verdict a "disgrace." 'A child left behind': Community rallies behind orphaned boy

As investigators work to determine a motive for the deadly assault Saturday at an outlet mall in Allen, Texas, a community is rallying behind a boy who became an orphan in an instant. Three of the eight people killed in the assault last week were Kyu Song Cho, 37, Cindy Cho, 35, and James Cho, 3. William Cho, 6, was wounded and spent time in intensive care. William's extended family posted an update on a GoFundMe that raised more than $1.4 million in just a few days.

• Federal agents have been reviewing social media accounts they believe were used by the gunman. A review of the 33-year-old's online activity suggests a fascination with white supremacy and mass shootings, which he described as sport.

Start your mammograms at 40

Women should be screened for breast cancer every other year starting at age 40 instead of 50, according to draft guidelines released Tuesday by the United States Preventive Services Task Force, the independent national body of experts that sets standards for tests and screenings. The previous recommendations, last updated in 2016, said women younger than 50 who are concerned could discuss screening with their doctors. Now, the task force says screening at 40 could save 19% more lives. Experts say the guidelines are a leap in the right direction – but should go further to advise women to be screened annually. Here's what you need to know.

US sending $1.2B more in aid to Ukraine

As Ukraine prepares to launch a long-planned offensive, the Pentagon announced a $1.2 billion military aid package Tuesday that includes orders to contractors for “critical near-term capabilities,” including air defense systems and 155mm artillery rounds. Among other things, the initiative will fund HAWK air defense systems, air defense munitions and drones. Last week, the Pentagon sent Ukraine $300 million in ammunition and other equipment from existing stocks.
