Kerala govt gives revised sanction for General Hospital development

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has given revised administrative sanction for an amount of Rs 207.35 crore for the development of Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital (GH). The government had earlier accorded administrative sanction for an amount of Rs 143.06 crore for the development of the hospital.
Later, considering the requirements and future development of the hospital it was decided to go for G+4 structure subject to air traffic clearance, as per the new order issued by the health and family welfare department. WAPCOS, the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) of the project, had submitted a revised preliminary project report for an amount of Rs 207.35 crore with the recommendation of the technical committee for Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) works.
The government has also given sanction for financing the project with the assistance of KIIFB. The SPV has been directed to improve the design and estimate for the project at the earliest. It shall prepare DPR and submit the same to KIIFB for getting revised financial sanction in this regard, the order said.
TOI had earlier reported that a four-storey trauma and OPD block, five-storey service block and five-storey laundry block will come up as part of the project. The project will be implemented in three phases. The existing old buildings have to be demolished for the construction and the hospital administration has identified as many as 12 buildings to be demolished in the 16-acre plot.
At present there are over 20 buildings at the general hospital, of which the 12 buildings spread over 4,994 m2 have to be demolished for the project.
The ground floor of the proposed trauma and OPD blocks will have emergency medicine and triage, resuscitation and observation, emergency operation theatre, septic operation theatre, recovery OP registration, radiology, pharmacy, ortho OPD, observation and fast-track OPD.
The first floor will have multidisciplinary ICU, step-down ICU, trauma wards, seminar rooms, duty doctor’s room, specialty/super specialty OP services, e-health and Bhoomika. The second floor will have a clinical laboratory, blood bank, super-specialty OP services and the third floor will have day-care chemotherapy, dental department and cafeteria.
