Four assembly constituencies and one Lok Sabha seat are going through a by-poll to elect their new representatives today. By-polls for four assembly seats are being conducted across Uttar Pradesh, Meghalaya and Odisha along with the election for the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat.
PM Narendra Modi also urged the voters to participate in these by-polls in large numbers, he wrote on Twitter, "There are by-polls happening for a Parliamentary seat in Punjab and for Assembly seats in Meghalaya, Odisha and UP. Urging voters in those constituencies to exercise their franchise in large numbers,"

Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat
The Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency fell vacant after the death of Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary. The constituency is set to witness a four-fold battle between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party, Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal and Bhartiya Janta Party.
While Congress has fielded Santokh Singh Chaudhary's wife Karamjit Kaur from the Jalandhar constituency, AAP has fielded former MLA Sushil Rinku. Furthermore, BJP has fielded a prominent Dalit Sikh face Iqbal Singh Atwal in the Lok Sabha by-polls and SAD has fielded its two-time MLA Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi from the seat.
Suar assembly constituency, UP
Rampur's Suar assembly constituency fell vacant after Samajwadi Party leader Abdullah Azam Khan was sentenced to two years' imprisonment in a 15-year-old case.
The Suar seat promises to be a tough fight between the Samajwadi Party and the BJP's alliance partner Apna Dal (S). While the Samajwadi Party has fielded Anuradha Chauhan from the Suar constituency, the Apna Dal (S) has fielded Shafeek Ahmed Ansari. Neither the Congress nor the BSP is fielding candidates from the constituency.
Chhanbey Assembly constituency, UP
Mirzapur's Chhanbey assembly constituency fell vacant after the death of sitting Apna Dal (S) MLA Rahul Kol. While Apna Dal (S) has fielded Kol's wife Rinki Kol from the assembly seat, SP has fielded Kirti Kol from the seat.
Similar to the Suar assembly seat, both the BSP and Congress are not contesting elections in the Chhanbey Assembly constituency where 3.65 lakh eligible voters will elect their new MLA today.
Jharsuguda assembly constituency, Odisha
Jhasuguda assembly constituency fell vacant after the death of former Odisha health minister Naba Kishore Das.
Jharsuguda assembly constituency is seeing a tripartite contest between the Biju Janta Dal, Congress and the BJP. While BJD has fielded the former health minister's daughter Deepali Das from the assembly constituency, Congress has nominated its former MLA Biren Pandey's son Tarun Pandey and BJP has nominated Tankadhar Tripathy.
Sohiong assembly constituency, Meghalaya
The February 27 assembly polls in Sohiong were postponed after the death of United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate HDR Lyngdoh.
Apart from the UDP, National People's Party (NPP), Hill State People's Democratic Party (HSPDP), BJP and TMC have fielded their candidates in this constituency.
