The polling for the Karnataka Assembly elections began at 7 am amid tight security and will continue till 6 pm.

As voting continued for the Karnataka Assembly elections on Wednesday, the Congress has vetoed the possibility of a post-poll alliance with the JD(S). The development comes even some exit polls predicted a Congress majority, with state chief DK Shivakumar insisting the Congress would form the government on its own. Incidentally the two parties had joined hands after nearly 14 years after the previous election yielded a hung assembly.

"Here the issue is price rise, corruption, good governance and development. There are no chances of alliance with JD(S). We will form the government on our own," Shivakumar told reporters after casting his vote here in elections to Karnataka Legislative Assembly.

Following the 2018 elections, the two parties had joined hands after nearly 14 years to form the state government under Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy.

The Congress is yet to declare a Chief Ministerial candidate for the state, with several leaders including Shivakumar in the fray.

“We will get a clear majority with more than 125 seats. There are 2-3 people (for the CM post) but High Command and MLAs will decide," the politician added.
