VISAKHAPATNAM: An auto-rickshaw driver killed a woman for gold ornaments and dumped her body in a stream in
Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam district.
The body of the deceased woman surfaced in Chilukuri Lay Out Gedda (drain) at Boyapalem on Wednesday.
Police identified the deceased woman as Resu Gopi (30) of Balajinagar in Tagarapuvalasa area in Bheemili mandal, who was missing for the past nine days. She is survived by her seven-year-old son.
The accused, identified as Myalapalli Raju (33), was arrested by the police.
According to police, the woman had gone to attend a function in her relatives’ house near Divis Industries in Asipalem on May 1. A few hours after the function, she was returning home in an autorickshaw and informed her sister. The driver Raju was a known man to the deceased.
The family members lodged a missing complaint at Bheemili police station on May 2 after they extensively searched for her. They informed the police that more than four tolas of gold ornaments were on the missing woman’s body.
Cops suspect that the autorickshaw driver took away the gold ornaments after strangulating her by using a rope. The murder took place at around 2.30pm.
He escaped from the area after throwing the body into the stream. Bheemili police sent the body for postmortem and registered a case under Section 302 of IPC.
