Lobin vows ‘political explosion’ in Hemant’s constituency on Jun 30
Ranchi: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s (JMM) veteran MLA Lobin Hembrom on Tuesday announced that he would launch a mega movement, which will be no less than a ‘political explosion’, from chief minister Hemant Soren’s assembly constituency on June 30.
“There will be a massive Jan Andolan, which will begin from Bhognadih on June 30 on Santhal Hul Diwas. I will not go into much detail now. You will get to know the demands gradually. All I would say is that there will be a political explosion on that day,” Hembrom said.
Bhognadih is the birthplace of tribal revolutionary duo Sidhu and Kanhu Murmu who led the Santhal Rebellion (Hul) against the British Raj in the mid 19th century. The hamlet comes under Soren’s assembly constituency Barhait in Sahibganj district.
Hembrom, a veteran JMM leader, has been criticising Soren government’s functionings for three years now over wide-ranging issues such as the illegal sand mining and coal transportation in Santhal Parganas, the government’s inability to implement the CNT and SPT Acts in fifth schedule areas, the delay in implementing a 1932 land survey settlement records based residents’ policy and the tribal rights to worship in the sacred Sammed Shikharji (Parasnath) Hills in Giridih.
Though he did not name the key objectives his movement aimed to achieve, Hembrom hinted that all his previous demands will be very much on the agenda.
“Look around and see what is happening. Corrupt officials such as Pooja Singhal and Chhavi Ranjan are brazenly grabbing tribal land parcels and the government of the day is doing nothing,” the 72-year-old politician said, indicating that the corruption issues will dominate his narrative.
In 2022, Hembrom had planned to hold public meetings and rallies in every district to press the demand of a residents’ policy, but halted it midway after the office of profit case against Soren rocked Jharkhand’s politics.
Hembrom said he does not get bothered with the tag of dissenter. “These are burning issues of the state and if other JMM MLAs choose to stay silent about them, what can I do? I won't keep quiet and continue to seek accountability from the government,” he added.
