A student from Haryana who is currently studying in the United Kingdom (UK) sent a threatening email Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, the Mumbai Police said on Wednesday, adding that a look out circular (LOC) has been issued against accused student who is currently pursuing medical education in the country.

A senior official said that following the threat mail sent to Salman Khan, police launched an investigation which revealed that the sender of the email was an Indian medical student hailing from Haryana.

The official said that the Mumbai Police have have initiated the process to bring the student—currently in his third year of a medical course in the UK— back to India.

According to the police, it is suspected that the accused student allegedly sent threatening messages to Salman Khan in the name of jailed gangster Goldy Brar in March this year.

They said the student will likely return to India by the end of this year after the end of his academic session in the UK.

Last week, Salman Khan received an email on his official ID warning the actor of dire consequences if he does not meet with notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s jailed associate and sort out differences once and for all.

Earlier, in March, the Mumbai Police had revealed that the email ID through which a death threat was sent to Salman Khan was linked to a UK-based mobile number.

According to reports quoting sources in the Mumbai Police, the email ID from which the threat was made revealed that it was linked to a mobile number in the UK and efforts are underway to trace the person under whose name the number was registered.

Salman Khan is currently under a Y+ category security cover provided by the Mumbai Police; a step taken by the Maharashtra government after the superstar had received a similar death threat from Lawrence Bishnoi gang earlier.

A Singapore-Tiruchirappalli IndiGo flight was diverted to Indonesia and made an emergency landing at the country’s Kualanamu airport on Tuesday after the crew noticed a burning smell coming from the cabin, the airline officials said on Wednesday.

In an official statement, the airline said that a Singapore-bound IndiGo flight (6E-1007) made an emergency landing at the to Kualanamu airport in Medan, Indonesia on Tuesday after the burning smell was noticed coming from the cabin, adding that following the landing, all the passengers were deboarded safely from the plane and the aircraft was held at Kualanamu for detailed inspection.

IndiGo, while regretting the incovenience caused to the passengers due to the unforseen incident, said that all the travellers were were provided accommodation and an alternate aircraft is being flown to Kualanamu to take the passengers to their intended destination, Singapore.

The airline said that initial inspection of the aircraft was satisfactory and the pilot followed procedures and as a precaution diverted the plane to the nearest airport, Kualanamu and the aircraft landed safely.

However, no information was provided about the number of passengers onboard and what time they will be flown on the alternate flight to Singapore.

In a related incident, a Mumbai-Nagpur IndiGo flight was grounded after it suffered a tail strike while landing at the Nagpur airport on April 14.

In a statement, IndiGo had said that on April 14, 2023, flight 6E 203, from Mumbai suffered from a tail strike while landing at Nagpur following which the aircraft was declared grounded at Nagpur airport for assessment and repairs.

The airline had confirmed that no injuries were reported in the mishap and the incident is being thoroughly investigated.

A tail strike happens when an aircraft’s tail or empennage collides with the ground or any other stationary object during takeoff or landing.

Police in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai stopped a special screening of ‘The Kerala Story’ today morning, days after the controversial Hindi film was taken off the screens by theatre owners in the state citing poor audience response and law and order threats.

As per reports, on Wednesday morning, a special screening of the Adah Sharma-starrer had been organized for top Tamil Nadu BJP leaders at Chennai’s famed Le Magic Lantern Preview Theater, but the event was foiled by the Chenna Police who arrived at the premises and stopped the screening of the film, citing law and order issues.

Reports said that senior BJP leaders were among some of the people invited for the screening. However, the saffron party has said that it did not organize the screening.

 A report quoting Tamil Nadu BJP vice-president Narayanan Thirupathy as saying that the BJP had nothing to do with the planned screening even though the party’s senior leaders had been invited to attend the event.

‘The Kerala Story’ controversy

‘The Kerala Story’ has sparked a massive controversy since its first trailer—which claimed that 32,000 women from the state were converted to Islam and recruited by global terror group Islamic State—  hit the screens in November last year.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan who has vehemently opposed the film, recently termed it as a “deliberately produced” piece of Sangh Parivar propaganda aimed to create communal divide and spread hatred among Hindus and Muslims in the state.

The film was issued an ‘A’ certificate by the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and told to delete 10 scenes, including an interview with a former chief minister of Kerala, ahead of its theatrical release.

The BJP has vociferously backed the Sudipto Sen directorial with even Prime Minister Narendra Modi praising the film for “exposing a terror conspiracy” and accusing the Congress of “siding with terrorists” and trying to appease them for political gain by opposing the film’s release.

On Monday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee banned the screening of the controversial Bollywood film in the state, while on May 7 (Sunday), multiplexes in Tamil Nadu stopped screenings of the ‘The Kerala Story’ citing law and order threats and poor response to the movie from the audience in the southern state.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to hear a plea challenging the Kerala High Court’s interim order which refused to ban the release of Adah Sharma starrer. The hearing is listed on May 15.
