Man sent for cash collection escapes with 2.24 lakh

Ludhiana: Hired four months ago as a driver, a man escaped with Rs 2.24 lakh cash which belonged to his employer, a fabric manufacturer. The victim, Jaspal Singh, 67, a resident of Model Town, had sent him to collect the cash on a scooter. After collecting the money, he parked the scooter at Samrala chowk and escaped with his family.
An FIR was registered against Danish Chaddha of Shastri Nagar under section 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) of the IPC on the complaint of Jaspal Singh. Jaspal Singh said that he hired Danish as a driver for his house on a friend’s reference. Initially, he said, Danish worked at home. Later, when he won the family’s confidence, they started sending him to collect payment from different areas.
He added that on Monday, Danish was given a scooter and asked to collect Rs 2.24 lakh cash from Mahavir Jain Colony. However, he did not return after hours and his mobile phone was switched off. Sub-inspector Sukhdev Singh, the investigating officer said, “The scooter given by Danish’s employer was found parked at Samrala Chowk. Danish has escaped with his family. The accused is from Amritsar and it has been found that he embezzled Rs 8 lakh cash there.
