The former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan arrest news has sparked protests in the Pakistan. He was arrested while attending a hearing at the Islamabad High Court for the Al-Qadir Trust case, where he and his wife have been accused of receiving illegal funds.
The arrest was followed by protests by PTI supporters who stormed the Pakistan Army headquarters and Corps Commander's residence, according to local media.
The Chief Justice at the Islamabad High Court, Aamer Farooq, criticized the arrest at the court premises, but the court later ruled it to be legal.
US calls for adherence to democratic principles and rule of law in Pakistan following Imran Khan's arrest and resulting chaos.
"United States does not have a position on one political candidate or party versus the another. We call for respect for democratic principles and the rule of law around the world", said the White House.
Amnesty International has urged the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to reinstate internet services in the country and allow citizens access to social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, ANI reported.
The statement was released in response to the suspension of mobile broadband services across Pakistan by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
According to a lawyer named Barrister Gohar Khan, who was present at the court when Imran Khan was arrested, the former Prime Minister was subjected to torture by the Rangers during his arrest at the Islamabad High Court on Tuesday, as per a report by Pakistan-based Dawn.
The US Embassy issued a travel alert for its citizens in Pakistan. The latest advisory read, “The U.S. Embassy is monitoring earlier reports of clashes between demonstrators and police in Islamabad and also sporadic demonstrations underway or being planned elsewhere throughout Pakistan. “Because of potential traffic disruptions and restrictions, U.S. Embassy Islamabad has cancelled all consular appointments for tomorrow, May 10, 2023," it added.
Protests broke out throughout Pakistan after the ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan was detained while attending a court hearing in the capital city.
Supporters of the PTI party caused disruption by surrounding military sites, throwing stones, obstructing roads, and setting banners and tires ablaze.

The party of Imran Khan claimed that police conducted a search at the home of Usman Dar, who is a leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
In a tweet, PTI stated,"Sialkot: Police raided the residence of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Usman Dar. The mother of the Dar brothers was harassed by violating the sanctity of the chador and the four walls."

According to a tweet from the Pakistan Daily, it has been announced that Imran Khan will be presented at the Police Lines HQ in H11 instead of the F8 Court Complex today.
Fawad Chaudhry expressed concerns over the Islamabad High Court's ruling that Imran Khan's arrest was legal, stating that it was illegal to arrest him without granting bail before his arrest.
He also mentioned that this decision is being challenged in the Supreme Court on the morning of the next day.
