Encroachment on govt land demolished in Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer: The municipal council of Jaisalmer on Tuesday demolished an encroachment on land owned by it at a prime location in the city. Commissioner Lajpal Singh Sodha along with police arrived at Air Force Chauraha at 11am and ordered the demolition. People were taken by surprise at this sudden action. For the past 10-12 years, a person named Gulam Shah had been constructing commercial establishments and shops on the government land and giving them out on rent. The cost of the land is estimated to be more than Rs 10 crore.
The municipal council in 2019-20 issued him a notice but he went to court. The matter was in court for many months but the verdict eventually came in favour of the municipal council. Shah had recently filed a petition seeking a stay but on May 5 the court dismissed the petition. tnn
