Sidestepping questions on the latest salvo fired against him by his party colleague Sachin Pilot, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, saying they were “always in election mode”, which is “not a good practice”.
“Their way of doing politics is not good practice,” said Gehlot who was in Pune for a function. He also said that the Congress will win the Karnataka elections and the victory “will be reflected” in the Rajasthan polls later.
Gehlot, however, avoided commenting on the recent statement made by his Rajasthan party colleague Sachin Pilot that it appeared the Chief Minister’s leader was BJP’s Vasundhara Raje and not Sonia Gandhi. Instead, Gehlot said his government “is focused on controlling inflation”. “The Congress government has given good governance in the last five years. We started various good schemes for citizens of the state and many states have started replicating them,” he said.
Hitting out at Modi again, Gehlot said one can only be a “vishwaguru” if “care is taken of all families”. “It is the labourer who brings progress and not machines. It is the duty of the Government to take care of all families irrespective of their status. In fact, I urge that there should be Right to Health and Right to Social Security in the country,” he said.
