Group of five men chops off youth’s palm in Deoghar

Dumka: A group of five men allegedly chopped off the right palm of a youth at Castairs Town under Town police station limits in Deoghar over a dispute, late Monday evening, police said.
The victim has been identified as Vivek Kumar (21) of Subhash Chowk locality.
Vivek was allegedly called by one of his acquaintances, Nitesh Kumar, on the pretext of settling some dispute and attacked with a sharp weapon by Nitesh and four others. They also attempted to amputate Vivek’s left palm but fled when some passersby approached them.
Vivek was rushed to the sadar hospital, where the officer in-charge (OC) of the Town police station, Abhishek Kumar, recorded his statement.
“Two out of the five men have been identified but are on the run. Attempts are on to nab all of them soon,” OC Abhishek Kumar said, adding that the amputated palm could not be recovered.
The two identified miscreants and the victim himself had criminal antecedents, the OC added.
