NIA registers fresh case against Jayesh
Nagpur: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has registered a fresh offence against Jayesh Pujari alias Jayesh Kantha and his group at Bengaluru this week, and handed over the case to their team at Mumbai.
Jayesh had twice called up the office of Union minister and city MP Nitin Gadkari this year and issued extortion threats.
The NIA teams, which are in Nagpur, collected documents related to Kantha, who is now in the custody of Nagpur police. The NIA team had registered the offence at Bengaluru as Kantha’s meeting with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) officials had taken place at a hospital in that city during treatment.
Nagpur police have registered two offences against Jayesh and also invoked Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in one of them. The city police are now invoking UAPA in the other case too.
Kantha, part of Pakistan-based LeT group, and also an active member of Popular Front of India (PFI), had threatened Gadkari twice from the Belagavi jail in Karnataka. He had also got training in bomb making. Kantha had also spoken to Chhota Shakeel through Rashid Malbaro and agreed to work for him.
Apart from threatening Gadkari, Kantha and his group had also hatched a conspiracy to eliminate Karnataka’s former deputy CM Eshwarappa, which fact surfaced during the city police interrogation. tnn
