CHENNAI: Customs sleuths at Chennai airport have seized 3.8 kg of
gold, worth Rs 2 crore, from passengers who arrived from
Sri Lanka and
Dubai.
Based on information, three men who landed here from Colombo on Monday were intercepted. They admitted to having hidden gold in their rectums. Gold in paste form was recovered, which yielded 2.3 kg gold. It is worth Rs 1.2 crore.
On Sunday, a female passenger who arrived from Dubai was intercepted and 852 gram of gold worth Rs 44 lakh was seized from her. She was identified due to profiling of frequent flyers, said customs officials.
On Saturday, a man who arrived from Hyderabad was stopped at the domestic arrival hall. A search led to the seizure of 705 gram of gold hidden in his undergarments.
