NEW DELHI: The staffer of an advocate was shot by armed men at the lawyer’s office in South-East Delhi’s Govindpuri late on Sunday night.
Police said advocate Sushil Gupta’s client had a monetary dispute with another person and had sought his intervention. Following a fight inside the advocate’s office, one of the accused opened fire.
Police said three men have been arrested.
Police got a call around 11.51 pm in which they learnt about the firing.
The firing had taken place on the first floor of the building, which was the office of advocate Gupta. The police said Anas Ahmad (24) suffered a bullet injury and was declared dead in a local hospital.
Police said at the location, a black Hyundai Creta bearing a Haryana number, was found. The assailants had used the car.
Investigations revealed that Gupta’s client Zafrool had a monetary dispute with Syed Mukkim Raza over an amount of Rs 4,000.
Rajesh Deo, deputy commissioner of police, North-East, said: “Zafrool had asked advocate Gupta to intervene. The alleged accused, Ankit, Mukkim, Varun Bidhuri and Gulam Mohammad, reached Gupta’s office to have a discussion. A common acquaintance, Amit Madar, along with two others also reached there. They were brought to Gupta’s office by Madar who came in an XUV 500 bearing a Haryana number,” Deo said. A fight broke out and on hearing the commotion several local people reached Gupta’s office.
“As the number of people in the office increased, Varun fired several rounds inside the office, one of which hit Ahmad. Gulam was caught by the people and thrashed. He was then admitted to the hospital. Meanwhile Ankit, Mukkim and Varun escaped through the roof.”
A police team carried out a search and after two hours managed to arrest Ankit and Mukkim from the roof of another building while Varun managed to flee. Raids are being carried out to nab him.
Three passers-by, who the locals thought were involved in the case, were also thrashed. Police identified the three as Yogesh Khatana, Ritesh Khatana and Naveen Bhati. “Their car too was vandalised by locals. We have asked them to give a complaint,” Deo said.
