MI vs RCB Live Score: Hello and welcome to Sportstar’s Live IPL coverage between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Suryakumar and Wadhera have a job in their hands and this partnership will be crucial for Mumbai. Wadhera drills Harshal Patel through the covers for a boundary and he proves to be a special talent. A left-hander in full flow is always a delight to watch.
PowerPlay is done and dusted and both teams have had their share of success with Mumbai getting off to a brilliant start and then Bangalore striking with two quick wickets. Wadhera gets into the business with a wonderful pull shot over the deep square leg for a maximum and then takes a couple to help Mumbai cross the 60-run mark.
Hasaranga provides the first breakthrough by removing the dangerous Ishan Kishan as the batsman edged a quicker delivery to Anuj Rawat. Bangalore did take a review for a LBW appeal and it turned out to be a successful one as Hasaranga trapped Rohit who paid the price for playing across the line and missing the ball. Mumbai suddenly has lost the momentum with both openers falling in one over.
Ishan Kishan’s fireworks with the bat impressed Ian Bishop as the batsman smokes Hazlewood for a 102-metre maximum by launching the fast bowler over the deep square leg for a huge six. Mumbai is off to a brilliant start and has dominated the PowerPlay with Ishan being the accelerator.
Siraj continues as Bangalore aims a breakthrough but there is no stopping Ishan Kishan. The southpaw hammers the fast bowler over the long-on for a maximum and then executes a brilliant pull to negotiate with the short ball from Siraj as the ball flies over the deep long leg region for a maximum. This is a brilliant start from Mumbai and the attacking mindset from Rohit and Ishan has paid rich dividends.
Rohit gets off the mark in style by skipping down the track and hammering Josh Hazlewood for a boundary, bringing out the signature pull shot as the ball travels over the mid-on for a boundary. Ishan is on the charge as he flicks Hazlewood and the ball beats the fielder at the deep square leg. Ishan finishes the over with another boundary as Mumbai is up and running in the 200-run chase.
Ishan Kishan gets off the mark with a boundary, using the pace of Siraj as the southpaw flicks the fast bowler to the fine-leg boundary to give Mumbai a good start. Sirag comes back strong, hitting the hard lengths with a delivery just missing the stumps. Four runs from the opening over.
Virat Kohli giving the pep-talk and this will be a very crucial innings for both teams. In a virtual quarter-final clash Bangalore needs early wickets while Mumbai has chased 200-plus totals but will require a good start from its openers. Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma open the innings as the run chase gets underway with Mohammed Siraj steaming in with the new ball. Here we go!
Akash Madhwal bowls the final over and the youngster starts with a brilliant yorker. The fast bowler delivered a brilliant last over and almost every ball has been bang on target. Just six runs from the final over and Mumbai needs 200 runs to win.
Jordan gets the breakthrough as he picks Karthik to get the breakthrough. Karthik holes it out in the deep mid-wicket region as he couldn’t get the required elevation and falls for an 18-ball 30 in an attempt to up the ante. Hasaranga pockets a boundary by opening the face of his bat and guiding Jordan to the backward point boundary and ending the over with another boundary.
Rohit opts for the option of spin at the death with Karthikeya bowling the 18th over. Karthik makes the right connection as he sweeps the spinner for a boundary and then uses his experience to drill the spinner over the covers for a boundary. The wicket-keeper then gets underneath a full toss to hammer the spinner over the deep mid-wicket for a maximum. Excelent batting from Karthik.
Karthik is finding the boundaries and this time creams Jordan through the V as the ball evades the fielder at mid-off and races to the fence. Green hands Karthik a life by dropping the batsman at long-off. Bangalore inching towards the 200-run mark.
Karthik gets going as he hits Kartikeya for a boundary by employing the slog-sweep and finding the gap through the square leg. The spinner adjusts his length and comes back strongly to end the over without conceding any further boundaries.
Green strikes and removes Faf du Plessis with Vinod (Substitute) taking a juggling catch, finishing the act in three attempts. Bangalore just losing momentum at the fag end of the innings. The skipper falls for a brilliant 65 off 41 deliveries and out walks the Impact player Kedar Jadhav who replaced Lomror. Jadhav gets into the job straightaway by opening his account with a boundary and the 150 is up for Bangalore.
The spin of Kartikeya has done the trick for Mumbai as Lomror falls after chopping on to his stumps. Mumbai making a comeback with two big wickets and this is a massive moment in the game. Dinesh Karthik is the new man in and the experienced campaigner has an opportunity to make an impression.
Behrendorff returns. Slower ball on length outside the off-stump and Maxwell slices it past point for four. Behrendroff to Maxwell, OUT. Behrendorff slides one in and Maxwell drags it straight to the cow corner fielder. Mahipal Lomror is in. He is off the mark with a single.
Chawla loops one in and du Plessis makes room to swing the ball down the ground for a huge six. A single to follow. Staggering from Maxwell. Chawla drops short and Maxwell reverse-sweeps over extra cover for four.
Jordan returns. Wide yorker and Maxwell slices it to down to deep backward point for a single. Full and wide and du Plessis lofts the ball easily over cover for four. du Plessis brings up his fifty off 30 balls. His sixth of the season as he continues a splendid run. Wadhera must be ruing the catch that he dropped in the first over. Jordan overpitches and Maxwell unleashes the reverse ramp for a cracking six - the 800th of the season!
Maxwell gets to his half-century in 25 balls and this has been an excellent knock from the Australian. He has scored all around the wicket smashing six boundaries and three sixes, striking at 200.00. Du Plessis then entertained the RCB supporters with a wonderful ramp shot and dispatched Akash for a maximum.
Kumar Kartikeya is into the attack and the spinner starts well, giving just six runs from his opening over. Maxwell is approaching his half-century.
Maxwell tees off and that’s a smashing hit from the Australian as he launches Chawla into the long-on boundary for a brilliant maximum. Bangalore up and running with both Maxwell and Du Plessis motoring on nicely.
Maxwell welcomes Jordan into the attack by smashing the fast bowler over the deep backward square leg for a maximum and then brought the 50-run stand by going deep into the crease and hammering the bowler over the deep square leg for a maximum. The partnership is worth 55 off 27 balls and Bangalore has recovered after the loss of early wickets.
Maxwell targets Chawla by hammering the spinner for two consecutive boundaries - the switch hit being the pick of the shot. The bowler does well to pull things back and is complimented well by his fielders as the PowerPlay comes to an end.
Behrendorff errs in length and Maxwell hammers the bowler for a boundary and that’s a top shot from Maxwell the Australian belted the ball over the bowler’s head. He then brought out the pull shot that resulted in a boundary with du Plessis finishing the over with a brilliant maximum down the ground.
Cameron Green into the attack and du Plessis continues to attack by first flicking the bowler through the square carpet and then hitting Green through the line over the mid-on to drive Bangalore.
Behrendorff strikes again and picks his second wicket by dismissing Anuj Rawat. The batsman showed signs of playing a big knock but got a leading edge as Green took an easy catch to dent Bangalore’s progress. Maxwell joins du Plessis and the batsman is off the mark with a boundary.
Spin being introduced early as Piyush Chawla comes in to bowl inside the PowerPlay. Du Plessis makes room and creams the leg-spinner through the covers for a boundary. The RCB skipper then further improvised by smoking the veteran to the long-off boundary. Top shots.
Behrendorff almost had Faf du Plessis caught but Wadhera dropped an easy catch at mid-wicket. Kohli then skipped down the track and got a faint outside edge as Rohit Sharma took an excellent review in a very noisy atmosphere to pack off the star batsman. Top start from Mumbai.
Right then it will be Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis who will open the batting for Bangalore and with the ball it will be Jason Behrendorff who will start proceedings.
“Generally you chase here because of the nature of this ground. Big score always creates the scoreboard pressure. They have a good batting line-up, hopefully we get wickets in their innings. There are a lot of teams in the race for that third and fourth spot, we need to play good cricket. One change for us, Vyshak comes in for Karn Sharma.”
“We are going to bowl first. It’s been good for us, we have chased down targets here, it’s a good pitch. Looks like a typical Mumbai pitch with even grass covering and also a few patches. Not sure how it’s going to play, but we are hoping for the best. We understand the importance of this game, but what’s in our control is in our control. We need to play good cricket, rest will take care of itself. Archer is out, we got Jordan, he will make his debut today.”

Mumbai Indians wins toss, opts to bowl first vs Royal Challengers Bangalore
“I think this (surface) will be an absolute beauty. There’s a nice even covering of grass right through, on a red soil wicket, that keeps enough pace in it so it doesn’t spin too much. I think it’ll spin in the first half, there’s just a touch of moisture on top. So it’ll get better and better as the game goes on.”
