Berhampur: The deputy registrar of cooperative societies (DRCS), Berhampur division, has recommended a probe into the alleged misappropriation of around Rs one crore funds of Cooperative Urban Bank Limited, Paralakhemundi, by the economic offences wing (EOW) of the state crime branch.
The DRCS, Biswa Ranjan Dash, wrote to principal secretary of the cooperative department in this regard on Saturday, after there was no progress in the police probe.
Ashok Kumar Nayak, manager-cum-secretary (in-charge of the urban bank) deposited Rs 91, 33,501 in the account of Kolkata-based private agency on January 3, to buy government securities for the bank. The agency diverted the funds somewhere else, causing a huge loss to the bank, he said
He said the bank secretary lodged an FIR in the police station, Paralakhemundi, on January 7, after they came to know that the private agency did not buy the government security for the bank. Even though four months have passed since the FIR was lodged, no prograess has been made in the case.
Neither the culprit was arrested nor the bank’s money recovered, he said
Police froze the account of the private agency at a bank’s Berhampur branch. Meanwhile, the assistant registrar of cooperative societies, Paralakhemundi, inquired into the alleged misappropriation of the bank money on the direction of DRCS, Berhampur.
