Rajkot: A marriage function in a village of Junagadh ended on a pungent note. And, the reason may seem unpalatable to many!
Clashes erupted in the Itali village of Mendarda taluka after a sweet tooth's craving to gobble down a few more gulab jamuns during the feast remained unsatiated, leaving him incensed and triggering a fight with the host that escalated within hours on Sunday.
Jayanti Vala, one of the guests attending the marriage of complainant Dinesh Parmar's niece, asked for more gulab jamuns after the first couple of servings. When Parmar's son Shailesh, who was serving food, told him that the dessert had got exhausted, Vala turned furious and started hurling expletives at him. Shailesh too got enraged and hit back at Vala in the same language. Hearing the acrimony, other relatives present at the venue intervened and brokered peace between them.
Thereafter Shailesh returned home, unaware that Vala was still seething over the shortage of gulab jamuns. In the evening, Vala and some other relatives went to Shailesh's house. This led to a fierce clash and Shailesh and his family members started thrashing all of them. Some of them from both groups got hospitalized and approached the police late in the night with cross-complaints.
The Mendarda police booked 35 people from both sides for rioting and other offences under IPC.
In his complaint, Shailesh alleged that Vala harboured a grudge over the shortage of gulab jamuns and thrashed him, his brother Piyush, uncle Babu and nephew Badal.
Vala, however, stated in his FIR that Shailesh had hurled abuses at him at the marriage venue during an argument over gulab jamuns getting exhausted.
The two FIRs are registered under IPC sections 143, 147, 148, 149, 324 and other sections.
