DA identifies 59-year-old woman stabbed to death inside Chelsea apartment building
Authorities are searching for a suspect after a woman was found stabbed to death inside an apartment building in Chelsea on Monday morning.
Officers responding to a report of a domestic disturbance at 44 Lafayette Avenue shortly before 10 a.m. found 59-year-old Margarita Morehead suffering from several stab wounds, according to the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office. Morehead was pronounced dead at CHA Everett Hospital.
Neighbors have nothing but questions, with no news of any arrests and no person of interest publicly identified.
“I’m nervous I was afraid.. when I first heard it.. I’ll probably be more afraid when I’m up there alone in my apartment,” said Pamela Rivera.
Rivera lives on the top floor of the building and says things were quiet when she left home early in the morning for work, but she returned to an active crime scene.
“I was like this is scary.. they haven’t caught the person who did it,” said Rivera.
Authorities said there is no danger to the public at this time.
State troopers assigned to the Suffolk DA’s office are assisting Chelsea police with an investigation.
