Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has been taken into custody on Tuesday (May 9) by paramilitary forces from outside the High Court in Islamabad. As per local reports, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief was arrested over corruption cases. 

Khan has been summoned by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) multiple times for his connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case. More than 120 cases have been registered against Khan in various courts. Reportedly, Imran Khan was at the Islamabad High Court to seek bail against various cases filed against him.

PTI’s official Twitter handle shared a video, which shows Imran being taken away by paramilitary personnel in a vehicle. It also shared a video of Imran’s lawyer, claiming that he was “badly injured inside the premises of IHC.”

What is the Al-Qadir Trust case?

Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi along with other PTI leaders are allegedly involved in the Al-Qadir University Project Trust. As per reports, Khan, his wife and others made a settlement with a property tycoon which caused a loss of 190 million pounds to the national exchequer. 

Reportedly, the PTI leaders are accused of getting undue benefits in the form of Over 458 kanals of land at Mouza Bakrala, Sohawa to establish Al-Qadir University. Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah held a press conference last year in June to announce the formation of a committee to investigate the allegations against Imran Khan. 

After Imran Khan's arrest, his supporters conducted protests across various cities. Many videos of the protesters are also being shared on Twitter. In many videos, several people are seen marching and chanting slogans in support of Imran Khan. 

PTI Secretary General Asad Umar has declared that the six-member party committee will soon come up with a plan for further actions.
