92-yr-old woman’s plaint ‘not heard’ by SSP, she protests
Ludhiana: A 92-year-old woman along with her 60-year-old son on Monday sat on a protest outside the office of Ludhiana senior superintendent of police (SSP), alleging that her complaint was not heard. Kartar Kaur, a resident of Narangwal village, Ludhiana, along with her son Jaswinder Singh held a dharna outside the SSP office in scorching heat after her plea to file a complaint in an alleged land-grab case was allegedly not heard.
The nonagenarian alleged that some ‘influential people’ of her village wanted to forcibly occupy her land, for which she had filed a complaint with the police against them. In return, they had allegedly filed a false case against his two sons under sections 107 and 151 of the CrPC, and threatened to kill them if her family didn’t leave the land. She said she had filed a complaint with the police in this case, which was not heard. She further alleged that the police had instead tried to pressure her into signing some blank papers, and asked her to vacate the land.
Kaur informed that her husband, Jangir Singh, was the owner and occupant of the land before his death. She added that her husband had also got the land demarcated by the patwari (revenue official) while he was still alive, the report of which he had also submitted with the police. However, she alleged that some police officers were in cahoots with the encroachers and tried to take possession of their land using money and political pressure.
The woman and her son said that they had reached the SSP’s office in Jagraon on Monday to seek justice, but were instead asked to leave the premises on the pretext that the SSP doesn’t meet visitors after 2pm. After that, the 92-year-old woman and her 60-year-old son staged a dharna outside the SSP’s office.
A senior police officer told TOI on the condition of anonymity that the matter was very old, and at that time the Narangwal village used to fall under the jurisdiction of Dehlon police station. He claimed that the woman didn’t disclose where her land was and the names of the person(s) with whom she had the dispute.
