HYDERABAD: With campaigning coming to an end in
Karnataka on Monday, state BJP leaders will now be camping in border districts in Telangana with Karnataka.
Party sources said the leaders will handle poll management from the border areas. "Many national-level leaders will also stay back and monitor the elections on May 10," sources said.
Tandur, Narayanpet and Zaheerabad are some of the border areas which are closer to Chincholi, Raichur and Ballari in Karnataka.
Sources said there was a proposal to organise a public meeting in the border districts of Telangana but the idea was dropped by the party leadership.
Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay and national vice-president DK Aruna campaigned in Karnataka in Telugu-dominant segments.
The leaders were given specific tasks to canvass for party candidates in these segments. "Though there is tough fight, we will finally emerge victorious. People want to bring back double-engine government in the neighbouring state," said a leader who campaigned vigorously.
Several leaders were involved in election-related work apart from campaigning. "We worked as per the calendar given by the party leadership to support the Karnataka unit," said another leader from Telangana.
Telugu comedian Brahmanandam campaigned for BJP candidate K Sudhakar in Chikkaballapur. "Both have personal equations. So, the actor campaigned for Sudhakar," a leader from Karnataka said. Chikkaballapur, a district that borders Andhra Pradesh, has a sizable population of Telugus.
