HYDERABAD: The mystery behind threat letters received by several village revenue officials in Birpur mandal in Jagtial in the name of Maoists has been cracked by cops. A 54-year-old ex-Maoist and his friend have now be held for sending the letters to settle scores with one village revenue official with whom one of the accused had a land dispute.
The letters were sent by B Laxmirajyam (54), a former militant from Narsimhulapalli village in the mandal, with the help of his friend P Prakash (54) from Sircilla town.
According to Jagtial SP A Bhaskar, several sarpanches, MPTCs and government officials working in Birpur mandal had received threatening letters from Maoist party during the past few days. As the panicked officials approached police, three special teams were formed to solve the mystery.
Police analysed CCTV footage in the mandal and arrested the accused from their houses in the early hours of Monday. During interrogation. Laxmirajyam confessed that he has a dispute with B Sattanna, a postmaster-cum-grocery store owner from his village, over 60 square yards plot. Laxmirajyam was suspected that village sarpanch Prabhakar and secretary Raj Kumar were supporting Sattanna.
In a bid to scare the village officials, Laxmirajyan took the help of Prakash, who has a flexi printing business, to print the fake letters in the name of Maoists. To avoid being suspected, Laxmirajyam had sent the letters to sarpanches and government officials of some neighbouring villages too, police said. Both the accused were arrested and the machinery used for designing and printing the letters seized.
