CHENNAI: Police on Monday registered a case against a man for cheating a Triplicane resident of 90,000, which he collected in various installments, after promising to provide 20 IPL match tickets. Separately, police arrested two men for selling tickets in the black market for the match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC) scheduled to be held at the M A Chidambaram stadium in Chepauk on May 10.
In the first case, police said, N Arunkumar, 32, of TP Koil Street in Triplicane was browsing through social media platforms for tickets for the CSK-Mumbai Indians (MI) match on May 6 when he saw that a person, later identified as Vinod Yadav, had posted on his Instagram account about having IPL tickets for sale. Arunkumar immedately placed an order for 20 tickets.
Vinod Yadav, who runs a coaching institute for CA aspirants on Gaudia Mutt Road in Royapettah, then demanded money to confirm the tickets and, after negotiations, Arunkumar transferred 90,000 in various instalments, police said. However, when Yadav neither gave the promised tickets nor the money, Arunkumar realised he had been cheated and filed a complaint with the Royapettah police. A case was registered and a hunt launched for Yadav.
In the second incident, Triplicane police arrested 13 people for selling in the black market tickets for the match scheduled to be held between CSK and Delhi Capitals on May 10 (Wednesday) at the Chepauk cricket stadium. Police seized 17 tickets and 77,000 in cash from them. The arrested include A Arunkumar, 33, and 34-year-old I Yesuraj. All the arrested have been remanded in judicial custody.
