NEW DELHI: Days after Rajasthan chief minister
Ashok Gehlot praised his predecessor Vasundhara Raje for helping him in saving his government in 2020 from rebel Congress MLAs, former deputy CM Sachin Pilot on Tuesday slammed Gehlot for his statement.
Pilot said that a CM criticising his own party MLAs while praising political rivals was beyond his understanding.
"For the first time, I am seeing someone criticise MPs and MLAs of their own party. Praising leaders from BJP and dishonouring Congress leaders is beyond my understanding, this is absolutely wrong," said Pilot.
The former deputy CM questioned Gehlot's loyalty towards the party.
"After listening to
Ashok Gehlot's speech in Dholpur, it seems like his leader is not Sonia Gandhi but
Vasundhara Raje Scindia," added Pilot
Pilot said that Gehlot' statement was enough to indicate why no action has been taken against corruption cases.
"Some people want to weaken the Congress party, we will not let them succeed...After listening to Ashok Gehlot's speech in Dholpur, I have understood why we could not take action on the cases of corruption in the last 4.5 years. No leader is more important that the public," said Pilot.
Pilot to hold 5-day 'Jan Sangarsh Yatra'
Sachin Pilot also announced to embark on a 5-day march from Ajmer to Jaipur from May11.
"I will hold a five-day-long 'Jan Sangarsh Yatra' from Ajmer to Jaipur starting May 11. This yatra is against corruption. I will take any decision after this yatra," said Pilot in Jaipur.
What Gehlot said
Speaking at an event in Dholpur on Sunday, Gehlot had named Raje, former assembly speaker Kailash Meghwal and BJP MLA Shobharani Kushwah as the 'saviours'. Gehlot claimed that Raje and the others had spoken against such coups and said "overthrowing elected governments was against Rajasthan's traditions".
Gehlot had also urged the rebel Congress MLAs "to return the money they had taken from BJP so that they could carry out their duties without any pressure". The CM went on to add that if the Congress MLAs had spent the money, he would "give them the spent portion or get it from the AICC", but insisted that "they should return the entire amount to Shah to release themselves from his grip".
