Over the past fortnight, the three major political parties — BJP, Congress, and JD(S) — besides others like AAP and SDPI, that are trying to gain a toehold in the state, released their manifestos which contained promises galore. While some promises tug at the emotions of voters, others pertain to development guarantees and schemes. But a common theme in all manifestos and promises is reservation. While some have promised to increase reservation, others have promised restoration of quota for minorities and reservation for women. The other common theme is a plan to develop Bengaluru and regional or district wise promises. TOI gives you a rundown of the big promises made by the major political parties.
BJP- Uniform Civil Code, NRC and state wing against religious fundamentalism and terror (K-Swift)
- 3 free gas cylinders for Ugadi, Ganesh Chaturthi and Diwali
- Half-litre Nandini milk and 5kg of rice/ millets
- State Capital Region for Bengaluru
- 10 lakh housing sites across the state for the siteless/homeless beneficiaries
- 7 per litre of milk production as incentive
- Reservation provided for SC (17%), ST (7%), Vokkaligas (6%) and Lingayats (7%)
Congress- Increase reservation cap from 50% to 75%. Restore 4% reservation for Muslims
- Five poll guarantees including Rs 2,000 for women per month; Rs 3,000 for graduates and Rs 1,500 for diploma holders as unemployment allowance; 10kg rice per person for BPL families, and free bus passes for women
- Mega Bengaluru region
- Gig workers welfare board creation with Rs 3,000 crore seed money
- All homeless families to get housing in 5 years
- 7 per litre of milk as incentive for dairy farmers
- Ban individuals and organisations that spew hate including those like Bajrang Dal and PFI
JD(S)- 5 free gas cylinders
- 2 lakh subsidy for women who have married farmers, Rs 10,00 subsidy per acre for all farmers
- Free EV two-wheelers for 60,000 girl students, 6. 8 lakh bicycles
- Restoration of 4% Muslim reservation, 5 % reservation in state budget for all minorities
- Loan waiver for women self-help groups
- 30 bed hospitals at every GP with free dialysis and lab facilities
- 6,000 allowance for pregnant women for six months
AAP- Full powers to Lokayukta including its own budget
- Bangalore infrastructure development agency, an umbrella organisation for all infrastructure works in the city
- Reservation of land for rental housing to low-income groups
- Two-language policy (Kannada and English)
- 33% reservation for women in government jobs
SDPI- Equitable distribution of state’s resources, in specific for 1. 3 crore Dalits and close to 1 crore minority population
- Social security for every household with one government or private job
- Peaceful environment to live in; communal harmony
- Restoration of the 4% reservation for the Muslim community
