Jaipur: The forest department plans to promote Palighat, a new wildlife tourist destination near Ranthambore National Park (RNP), by offering a combo-ticketing package for both boat safaris and tiger safaris. Palighat is approximately an hour’s drive from Ranthambore, and to enhance the tourist experience, the department has recently deployed 32 high-quality boats.
At a recent tourism conference, a top forest official said, “The Chambal safari at Palighat is gaining momentum, and plans are underway to offer a combo-ticketing package for Palighat and Ranthambore. Tourists who book both safaris will receive a discount.”
Revenue from ticket sales for boat safaris at Palighat recently reached Rs 3 lakh, and officials say it would rise as more tourists become aware of this site. “Due to its convenient location near Sawai Madhopur and the established tourist traffic to Ranthambore, the river section between Palighat and Rameshwarghat in Sawai Madhopur has the potential to become a natural hotspot for development,” added a senior official.
Wildlife enthusiasts said Chambal has huge potential to be the most preferred destination for wildlife tourists. “Rajasthan has more to offer than its tigers. The gharial is among the largest of crocodiles and can grow up to more than four metres in length. It has an unmistakable elongated snout, and its unique characteristics can attract thousands of wildlife tourists,” said
Rahul Sharma, a wildlife enthusiast.
A forest official said a conservation plan has been launched for nine species of turtles and their nesting habitats along the Chambal riverbank in Sawai Madhopur and Dholpur districts.
