Duo's escape: Police write to juvenile home to boost security
LUDHIANA: A day after two inmates of a juvenile home in Shimlpauri escaped the premises after scaling a 20-ft boundary wall, the Ludhiana police wrote to the authorities of juvenile home to beef up their security. Besides, police have also got the list of visitors of the inmates and two contact numbers on which the accused inmates had made several calls. Besides the inmates, the police had booked two Punjab home guard volunteers, deputed at the home, for negligence in duty.
On Sunday afternoon, two inmates - a 17-year-old undertrial from Amritsar and a 19-year-old convict from Patiala, escaped from the home. The accused made a rope using a bedsheet and used it to scale the wall.
Assistant commissioner of police (Industrial Area-B) Sandeep Vadhera said, "Police have questioned other inmates who were accommodated with the absconding inmates. The police have got contacts of the people whom the inmates had contacted over the phone from the home. Besides, all those who used to visit the inmates at the home have also been traced."
Vadhera said besides checking the night shelters, police have also circulated the pictures of the absconding inmates with the authorities of railway station, bus stand.
"Earlier also, similar incidents have been reported in which the inmates had escaped from the home. The police have written to the home to increase surveillance and security to avert such incidents in future," the official added.
Inspector Parmod Kumar, SHO, Shimlapuri police station, said the police lodged an FIR against the absconding accused and another inmate who helped the duo flee.
