Kanpur: Mutilated body of a seven-year-old girl, missing since May 4 night, was found Sunday evening in a village in the Taalgram police area of Kannauj district. The girl had gone to attend the marriage of her cousin in the village along with her parents, when she disappeared under mysterious circumstances. On the complaint of the girl’s parents, police have registered an FIR under the relevant IPC sections against unidentified and initiated investigations.
Reports said Riya (name changed), was a class-IV student in the Basic Government School of the village. She disappeared from the house of her cousin whose marriage was solemnized on May 4 night. The family members had lodged a missing complaint with the Taalgram police, who had launched a search operation. However, on Sunday evening, the body of the girl was found lying in a maize field some 500 meters from the village. Kannauj superintendent of police Kunwar Anupam Singh, additional superintendent of police (ASP) Arvind Kumar, Circle Officer (Sadar) Priyanka Bajpai and the forensic team also reached the spot.
Police station in-charge Devesh Kumar said, “The cause of the death of the girl will be known after the postmortem examination.”
“We are scanning footage of videography done during the marriage and photos taken from cameras for a clue into the case,” said ASP Arvind Kumar.
