Coimbatore: A total of 12 male prisoners from the Coimbatore central prison have cleared the Class XII state board examination.
The highest score among them was 481, while those who held the second and third spots scored 461 and 460 respectively. Besides the language papers (Tamil and English), they sat for exams on History, Economics, Commerce, and Accountancy.
When contacted by TOI, DIG of prisons (Coimbatore) G. Shanmugasundaram said, “The prison department will allow all 12 convicts to pursue a course of their interest through correspondence education, if they wish to do so. They can join any course at IGNOU or other state universities, and their education cost will be borne by the government.”
