Shares of IndusInd Bank(up 4.94 per cent), AU Small Finance Bank(up 2.52 per cent), Bandhan Bank(up 2.29 per cent), Kotak Mahindra Bank(up 1.56 per cent) and Axis Bank(up 1.52 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Punjab National Bank(down 0.48 per cent) and Bank of Baroda(down 0.22 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Bank index closed 1.46 per cent up at 43284.0.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 195.4 points at 18264.4, while the BSE Sensex stood up 709.96 points at 61764.25.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 41 ended in the green, while 9 closed in the red.
Shares of Indian Railway Finance Corporation Ltd., Zomato Ltd., Suzlon Energy, PNB and YES Bank were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Jai Balaji Inds, Kirloskar Elec, Inox Wind Energy Ltd., RateGain Travel Technologies Ltd. and Mohini Health & Hygi hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Parenteral Drug, Rajvir Ind, Aditya Birla Retail, BEML Land Assets and A G Universal hit their fresh 52-week lows.
