John Fury believes Tyson Fury's self-belief - or, in his words, 'his balls' - is what has helped him rise to the top of heavyweight boxing.

John, the dad of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson, was singing his son's praises when he appeared on the Stamina For Sale podcast.

“Anyone who thinks any of this crop of heavyweights can come anywhere near Tyson, think again, think again," Fury Snr said. "He’s got what they ain’t got, he can adjust to any situation.

"The main thing is he believes in his own balls, he believes in his ball, he believes in himself, he believes that when he gets in that ring nobody is beating Tyson Fury.

"When he goes down from thunderous shots he thinks, ‘Okay, I’m alive, let’s get up and bring it – kill me stone dead’, that’s what you’ve got to do in his mind.”

This stands to reason, as Tyson has been down on a number of occasions throughout his career, including four times in three fights against arguably the hardest puncher in heavyweight boxing history, Deontay Wilder.

And on every occasion Tyson has risen back to his feet and gone on to win the fight, with the exception of a draw against Wilder in their first encounter.

John then turned his attention to one of Tyson's heavyweight rivals, Anthony Joshua, as he showed support for his fellow Brit in the aftermath of criticism he has received for his performances in recent years.

"Poor old AJ, stop giving the kid stick. Support your man, support your man," Fury said.

"We're all British and he's a fellow heavyweight. There are a few little rising UK heavyweight stars and I support them all, they need all the support and attention we can give them.

"If you supported him before, then support him now."

With that being said, John did have some criticism for Joshua's team for not recognising that his issues in the ring are mental rather than physical, as he said: "They are digging in the wrong places with him.

"They need to wake the f*** up and recognise the obvious problem with the kid and work on it."
