Liam Smith's rematch with Chris Eubank Jr has reportedly been postponed for a 'couple of weeks'.

The pair were set to clash for the second time on June 17, but Smith has suffered an injury in training leading to the postponement.

The news comes via ESPN's Mike Coppinger, who tweeted: "Liam Smith suffered an injury while training and his June 17 rematch with Chris Eubank Jr. has been postponed, sources tell ESPN.

"The middleweight fight is expected to only be delayed a couple of weeks."

In the first fight, Smith won by knockout in round four to become the first fighter to stop Eubank Jr in his 35-fight career.

Eubank Jr had a rematch clause in place and after failing to re-schedule a bout with Conor Benn, he decided to take on Smith once again.

After the rematch was announced, Smith told talkSPORT: “I’m pleased it’s finally over the line now. All the speculation beforehand, ‘Is the rematch on? Is it not on?’ I’m glad that it’s over the line now and I am looking forward to it.

“You know what, I’m surprised and I’m not. I’m surprised [because] he tried to make the Conor Benn fight. There’s no secret, they tried to go the Conor Benn route.

“But I’m also not surprised because he really had to fight me again to save face for his own career going forward if he plans on going forward.”

As for what Smith can take from their first clash, he said: “I’m going to be brutally [honest], he didn’t do nothing I didn’t expect.

“I just know now that I can hurt him to the head which not many people thought. I was basically told I couldn’t do [that]. I know I can hurt him to the body, and I know I can hurt him to the head now too.

“I don’t need to change nothing, everything I did in the last camp worked. It’s not really me who needs to change this time, my results speak for itself, it’s Chris who needs to change.

“I’ll do everything I do normally in the gym and I’m 100 per cent confident I’ll beat Chris again.”

His aim will no doubt be the same assuming the fight gets rescheduled for July as expected.
