BIS holds state level committee meeting in Chennai

CHENNAI: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted a state level committee (SLC) meeting on standardization and quality systems on Monday.
Chief secretary V Irai Anbu, who is the chairman of the committee, and additional chief secretary J Radhakrishnan (cooperation, food and consumer protection department ), who is the member secretary, took part in the meeting along with BIS officials. The meeting was held at the secretariat.
The committee discussed creation of standardization cells in Tamil Nadu to act as a channel of communication among the government, the industry and the BIS. The committee also discussed capacity building of state government officials on standards formulation, promotion, conformity assessment and consumer outreach.
Various schemes of BIS like the implementation of the standards for piped drinking water supply management system, ready mix concrete process certification, management systems certification scheme, hallmarking, conformity assessment scheme for milk and milk products, road traffic safety management system and strategy for implementation of quality control orders issued by the central government were discussed in detail.
