'Most students from other states have left Imphal'
People gather at the Imphal airport to flee ethnic violence that has hit the region.
GUWAHATI: The North East Students' Organisation (Neso), which is at the forefront of evacuating stranded students from Manipur, said the bigger batch of students from other states left capital Imphal by Sunday evening.
Wangjam Sanatomba, assistant general secretary of NESO, told TOI that 240 students from different states, mostly from the NE, have left the Manipur capital.
"Only some students are still on the campuses of the educational institutions, but they are safe. The situation in Imphal is controlled. More importantly, more than 90% of the students who came to study in Manipur were in Imphal as all the renowned central government educational institutions are there," Sanatomba, who is also the All Manipur Students' Union adviser, said.
Neso has set up a helpline number (7005675484) for students stranded in Imphal.
