Manchester United lost a second successive away match in the Premier League to see their top four ambitions hang by a thread. After giving away a last-gasp penalty to Brighton and losing 1-0, United were terrible against West Ham, who could have won by more than the 1-0 margin. United offered nothing and lacked intensity as David de Gea's howler saw West Ham win.

United needed nine points from their remaining six games to seal the top four but two successive defeats have made things difficult. United showed some zip at the start in what was an open game but couldn't test West Ham keeper Lukas Fabianski. Said Benrahama scored from his shot as De Gea's mistake saw the ball go into the net. United could have suffered more in the second half as West Ham dominated and had two goals chalked off. United never picked themselves up and lost.

United have suffered their eighth away defeat in the Premier League this season, clocking their joint-most away defeats in a single campaign (also in 2021-22 and 2015-16). As per Opta, West Ham have defeated United in the league for the first time since September 2019. United have lost each of their last four Premier League matches in May.

United keeper David de Gea has made four errors leading to a goal in all competitions this season. It's the joint-most of any Premier League player, along with Hugo Lloris.
