The Pune rural police have arrested a history-sheeter in connection with thefts at houses when residents went out for ‘dashkriya vidhi’, a ritual performed on the tenth day after the death of a family member.
The police identified the accused as Akash Prakash Vibhute, 32, a resident of Anandwadi in Junnar taluka of Pune district and a native of Solapur.
A press release issued by the police stated that two daylight house break-ins were reported at the Golegaon and Nirgude villages in Junnar recently. The police said the thefts occurred when the residents had gone out for ‘dashkriya vidhi’ in both cases.
The local crime branch (LCB) team headed by inspector Avinash Shilimkar launched a probe and confirmed the role of Vibhute in the two thefts.
Assistant police inspector Mahadev Shelar and his team arrested Vibhute on Saturday and recovered stolen gold ornaments and other valuables worth Rs 5.46 lakh from his possession.
The police said Vibhute was earlier arrested in two theft cases in the Solapur district.
