6-month-old fight triggers firing, 1 critically injured

Ludhiana: A man was injured in firing at Kaunke Kalan village of Jagraon on Saturday.
The injured identified as Gurpreet Singh was taken to a government hospital in Jagraon from where he was first referred to Ludhiana civil hospital and then to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). His condition is said to be critical.

Ludhiana rural police have meanwhile booked the person — Jagdeep Singh of same village — who fired the gunshot.
Cops said Gurpreet’s brother Balbir Singh and Jagdeep had a fight during a marriage function in Ferozepur six months ago. They were involved in another scuffle three months back but then panchayat had stepped in and helped resolve the matter. Balbir and Jagdeep had farm lands adjacent to each other.
In his complaint, Balbir claimed Gurpreet had returned from Dubai about a month back. On Saturday, they cut the fodder and loaded it in a vehicle around 8.30am. When they were about to reach their house, the accused arrived at the spot on a motorcycle and took out his revolver and started using foul language against them.
Both the parties then reached near their lands where the accused kept abusing Gurpreet and his family, Balbir claimed. “Jagdeep first pelted us with stones which damaged lights of our tractor. Then he used a stick to attack Gurpreet and finally he fired a shot. The bullet hit Gupreet in his chest,” Balbir claimed.
Police have booked the accused under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 427 (Mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the IPC and sections of Arms Act.
DSP Jagraon Satvinder Singh Virk said the accused is yet to be arrested. Police officials said they have scanned the video of the incident as well where the injured person could be seen climbing the roof where the accused was standing. They added that the accused allegedly fired from his licensed revolver.
