With an aim to provide separate access to Mapusa sub-yard market, a new road was constructed next to the new bus stand but the road is lying unused. The road is presently used by four wheelers for parking vehicles due to a divider on the main road which has turned into a hurdle for free movement of vehicles for sub-yard
market vehicles.
The Mapusa sub-yard market is spread across 21,000 square metres of land wherein over 100 traders are doing their business. Besides traders there are vendors who are also doing business. Despite being a major market in North Goa it lacks proper access to the sub-yard market.
The sub-yard market currently uses access from the old KTC bus stand for transportation and other purposes which creates problems not only for the bus stand traffic but also for market businessmen. Hence to resolve the issues the Goa agricultural marketing board had proposed a new road connecting the sub- yard market to the main road directly at Carvalho petrol pump and the same proposal was further pursued and a new road was constructed next to the new interstate bus stand connecting sub-yard market to the
main road.
However, due to the presence of dividers on the main road from Gandhi circle towards Guirim, it has turned out to be a major obstruction for free movement of vehicles.
Accordingly, Goa agricultural marketing board approached the PWD road section to remove the divider so that the road can be put to use and necessary measures can
be taken.
“We had approached the PWD road section with regards to a divider which is placed on the main road and is causing obstruction for vehicles. Accordingly, the PWD road section has also held an inspection and necessary corrective measures will be taken” said Amey Natekar, chairman of Mapusa
sub-yard committee.
