Pregnant woman from Madurai murdered, hubby and parents held

MADURAI: A 22-year-old pregnant woman from Madurai city was beaten to death by her husband on Saturday allegedly due to a family dispute.
Police have arrested her husband and his parents for the murder.
The deceased, S Ramya of Muniyandipuram, under Thiruparankundram police station limits, was married to S Sathishkumar, 32, after an affair on January 12 this year. The couple was living together and Ramya became pregnant.
Police said the couple had some family dispute between them. On Saturday afternoon, Sathishkumar and his parents asked Ramya to abort her three-month-old foetus, and also insulted her denoting her caste name.
During the argument, Sathishkumar went on to assault his wife with a wooden log. Ramya died due to bleeding injuries. The body was recovered by the police and sent to a government hospital for postmortem examination.
Based on her father’s complaint, Thiruparankundram police registered a case under section 302 of IPC for murder and under sections 3 (2) (V) of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Police booked Sathishkumar and his parents, S Selvam, 55, and S Panchavarnam, 52, and arrested them.
Further investigations are on, said police.
