Prayagraj: The 14th State level Refresher Course ‘IMA CGP Update 2023’ was organized at AMA Convention Centre here on Sunday under theme ‘Neurology-Hematology update 2023’.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof & Head Department of Neuro Surgery NSCB Medical College, Jabalpur, Dr YR Yadav said that one of the significant advantages of neuro-endoscopic surgery is that patients typically experience less pain and a faster recovery time than with traditional open surgery.
However, it is essential to acknowledge that like all surgical proedures, there are limitations associated with neuroendoscopic surgery.
Blind area, difficulty in controlling bleeding, difficulty in bimanual dissection in limited space, poor visualization due to lens staining or straight arrangement of scope and two other instruments, need for unique skills which are different from microscopic technique, 2D images, longer operative time in the learning curve, and a steep learning curve are some of the limitations. All these can be overcome by proper training.
Dr. Pawan Kumar Verma, Associate Professor, Department of Neuro Surgery SGPGIMS Lucknow speaking on Traumatic
Brain Injury : Current Guidelines and Recommendations said that post injury, Brain resuscitation should be started at the earliest to avoid secondary brain injury.Dr. Nimisha Verma, Associate Professor , Department Anaesthesia & Pain Management, IMS, BHU speaking on the topic Overview of chronic pain management told that there are two types of chronic pain, the most common are low back pain, headaches and joints pains and muscular pains, cancer related pain, that are mostly treated by pain physicians.
Some pains are localized , some generalized and some radiate to a place from the point of origin.
The principle behind treatment of such pains is to block the conduction or to modulate the conduction of nerve impulses from the periphery to centre. This emphasizes the role of interventional pain techniques in management of severe pain.
Dr. Rakesh Kumar Singh, Professor, Department of Neuro Surgery RML IMS Lucknow speaking on spine deformity and its correction told Spine problems, especially backache, is one of the most common prevalent medical conditions among adults with lifetime prevalence of 66% in Indian population. Prevalence is highest among females, the rural population, and among elementary workers. Low back pain also restricts mobility, interferes with normal functioning and results in lifelong pain and permanent disability.
The cause of back pain varies from congenital to degenerative, depending upon age specific prevalence of causes. Early detection has positive results and can be treated by exercise and with the help of braces.
