2cr cough syrup bottles seized in Karimganj

Silchar: Police seized cough syrup bottles worth nearly Rs 2 crore from a truck and arrested the driver and his assistant at Churaibari in Karimganj district on Saturday night.
Police said the bottles were being smuggled from Uttar Pradesh to Tripura via Assam’s Barak Valley.
Sources said the incident took place during a routine police checking. The truck was stopped near the Churaibari police watchpost. Police found 35,300 bottles of codeine phosphate in 353 cartons, which were kept hidden under several items in the vehicle.
The driver has been identified as Mayank Sharma and the assistant as Bishal Miya, both natives of Civil Lines on Kanth Road in UP’s Moradabad district, sources said.
