BAREILLY: A 50-year-old farmer, whose 14-year-old son was murdered by his wife and a close relative, took "revenge" by killing the kin in Mitauli area of Kheri district, police said on Sunday.
The kin, Shatrudhan Lala, 47, was shot in the head thrice and died on the spot on Friday night. After an initial probe, police found that Lala was killed by his son’s father-in-law Kashi Kashyap.
According to police, Kashi’s wife had murdered her own son Jitendra with the help of Lala in 2021 after the boy had allegedly seen the duo in a "compromising position" when the 50-year-old farmer was in jail in a separate case. The woman and Lala were subsequently arrested and sent to jail for the minor's murder, but Kashi always wanted to avenge his son's death himself, police said.
After coming out of prison in December 2022, Kashi is believed to have ensured bail for Lala by hiring an advocate. Lala got bail in the first week of April and since then, Kashi was looking for an opportunity to kill the former.
Police said they have recovered evidence against Kashi in the case.
Notably, Kashi was a co-accused in a 2020 murder case over a local dispute at Hyderabad in Kheri district.
Before going to prison, he had sent his wife and son Jitendra to his daughter's in-law's house.
In 2021, Jitendra disappeared. A few days later his body was found buried in a shallow grave near a riverbank.
Initially, no case was registered as police thought it was a case of drowning.
Later, Kashi's wife and Lala had some differences and she approached the court to register an FIR in October 2021. Following investigation, police found both of them were involved in Jitendra's murder and sent them to jail.
Additional SP, Naipal Singh, told TOI on Sunday, "Kashi was tracking Lala's movements, and when the latter was on his way home from a farm on Friday evening, he shot him dead. We have booked him for murder at Mitauli thana and multiple teams are looking for him."
