Bhubaneswar: The cyclonic circulation over southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a low pressure by Monday morning before it concentrates into a cyclonic storm by Wednesday. The IMD has not issued any alert for Odisha, but heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Andaman and Nicobar Islands from Monday to Friday. The IMD forecast said temperature in the state is likely to increase by 2 to 4 degree Celsius in the next couple of days.
“The low-pressure area is likely to form by Monday, which could intensify into a cyclonic storm by Wednesday while moving nearly northwards towards central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea. The details of its path and intensification will be provided after the formation of the low-pressure area. The system is under constant watch and being monitored regularly,” IMD’s latest bulletin stated. Once formed, the cyclonic storm will be named as Cyclone Mocha, as per the list proposed by the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs).
Fishermen, small ships, boats and trawlers have been advised not to venture into southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Andaman Sea from Sunday onwards and into southeast and adjoining central Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea from Tuesday. The IMD forecast said heavy rainfall activity is likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands between Monday and Friday and advised to regulate tourism and offshore activities and shipping over Andaman and Nicobar Islands during this time.
On Sunday, maximum temperature across the state increased in several districts. The weather department said the existing cyclonic circulation has been pulling all moisture from the atmosphere, leading to a significant rise in day temperature. Five places in the state saw temperature cross 40°C while the capital city recorded a maximum temperature of 37.6°C. The IMD also issued a warning of
rain and thundershowers.
