Gold worth `2.5cr seized at airport
Chennai: Customs officers at the airport seized 4.8 kg of gold, worth `2.5 crore, from seven passengers.
On Saturday, 2.3 kg of gold, worth 1.21 crore, was seized from two men who arrived from Dubai. The duo had hid gold in their bodies as cut bits, chains and in rubber paste form, said customs officials. They were arrested and released on bail.
Officials said 2.49 kg of gold, worth 1.32 crore, was seized from five passengers including four women who arrived from Colombo and Singapore on Wednesday.
Two Sri Lankan women who arrived from Colombo were intercepted based on information and gold hidden in their clothes in paste form was seized. The seizure yielded 1.4 kg of gold worth 55 lakh.
Similarly, two women who arrived from Singapore were found to be carrying gold chains weighing 700 gram. The chains were seized. Another 745 gram of gold was seized from a man who arrived from Dubai, said customs officials.
